Earlier this weekend, I was at one of my friends houses watching the debate with her mom. I'm really great friends with her, and i asked her if she was a democrat or republican and I recieved a very interesting response. She replied, "I don't believe in that stuff... whatever candidate is best equipped for the job. We have a great deal of economic issues along with other issues right now, and whoever i think is best for the job gets my vote." This election has gotten very interesting considering the fact that McCain and Obama are such opposites. old, young. black, white. And the most obvious democrat, rebublican. I was at another friends house where they are very single minded. "The democrat always gets my vote," the mom of my other friend says. What happens if the democrat is unfit for the job? Do you still vote for him?
This brings me to my question, how important is the party of the candidate?

Andrea, your friend makes a really good point. I have the same opinion as them. I believe that the candidate who is right, should get the votes. I am neither a Democrat or Republican. I go for whoever is best for the position.
This is a very interesting question and topic to bring up! There are so many aspects that go into electing a candidate for president. I don't think that the party of the candidate should determine whether they are the right person to run the country. As Americans we should look at their views as a whole and the direction they want to take the country and base our votes on that rather than the party. Many people are one sided and will vote for the party that they generally support and that's it, no matter what the candidates policies are and I think that is a naive way to think.
I agree with your friend. Who ever i find is best for the job will get my vote, when I can legally vote. This is the first Presidential Election that I have actually followed. When looking at the two canidates, even today, I'm still not sure who i would vote for. But, if I were to vote, the canidate who I think will do the best job will get my vote. It doesn't matter which Political Party they are from to me.
I agree with all three of the posts previously made. I think that choosing one political party is a limited way to think. I believe that the candidate that is best fit for the job should receive my vote. We should all think independently and not vote a straight party line. I know that each party has its own political philosophy; however, in choosing our president and vice president we need to evaluate the candidates personally and not just choose them because they were chosen by the party.
