american factbook?

In class, we were talking about different history textbooks that were supposedly based off of fact. After pointing out the amount of words dedicated to certain historical events, we were allowed to see how the historians weighed out the importance of the events. It is significant to realize that not telling all the facts may not be telling the truth about history.
We also mentioned in class about how Christopher Colombus is told to be a great explorer through textbooks. The man was a great explorer, however what was failed to mention was that his actions were violent and cruel. Without telling the whole story about him, is the truth really spoken? If a textbook is picking and choosing facts to put in the book, is the story of American history ever truely told?
