goodbye 2008, hello 2009

As you all know, we are now in 2009! I was on the phone with my aunt this morning, and as we were talking, she asked me what I accomplished in 2008 and what I want to accomplish in 2009.  Now, i thought that's a pretty intense question to ask.  She had already made a list of things she wanted to do in the new year.  Such as, learn to cook, plant a garden, get a dog, and a bunch of others.  I thought about it a little and I couldn't think of anything I really wanted to do in 2009...  According to my aunt, if you go by each year just from one day to the next, and you can't say you are working towards anything, you won't have any accomplishments when the new year comes.
Is it that important? Is it imperative that we set goals so that our years are worthwhile and focus our days towards reaching them?
What do you think of new years resolutions?

Sometimes it's fun to make New Year's resolutions, but most people don't keep them for very long. ;) I guess yearly goals work differently for different people. Personally, I live my life day by day. Knowing what you want is always good, but specific goals can get overwhelming, especially when things just don't work out. Taking it step by step seems to work pretty well for me. I try not to look too far in advance. You never know what will happen between then and now anyways.

I think that it is important to set goals for yourself, even if they aren’t big goals. It’s good to know something you want to work for. It is important to make the most of each day and live each day to the fullest. At the same time though, it is fun to have something to look forward to in the future. New Year’s resolutions are great things but they aren’t always taken very seriously. I try to go through with my resolutions but they don’t always last.
